Tax to pay for fast net access

Every Briton with a fixed-line phone will pay a “small levy” of 50p per month to pay for faster net access. The proposal is part of the Digital Britain report outlined by Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw in Parliament. The report also includes a pledge to curb unlawful file sharing by giving regulator Ofcom new powers to identify persistent pirates.

Hydrogen car to be ‘open source’

The Riversimple hydrogen car can go 80km/hr (50mph) and travels 322km (200mi) per re-fuelling, with an efficiency equivalent to 300 miles to the gallon. [...] The company will distribute the engineering designs to the 40 Fires foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that will make the designs “open source“.
